January 2019

Jan 1, 2019:
I am so, so grateful to have the village I do.
Finishing 2018 at the grotto and starting 2019 at Lake Blanche was perfect—thank you for reaching out to me and helping me rediscover the clarity of mind and stability of heart that is found only in places that challenge you to put one foot in front of another.
My village listens without judgment and reminds me to be patient with myself. That it’s ok to step back, step away, but to come back stronger.
They remind me I am real, and the experiences I’ve gone through are the sum of my whole, and every single one has been necessary along the way.
They remind me that looking in the rear view mirror serves a purpose: to see how far I’ve come.
They tell me they may not have experienced the same storm, but they will stand by my side in my rain.
They have confidence in me when mine falters, and remind me I am a mountain, and winds will howl, but they cannot knock me down. My starting place is different than 20+ years ago, my ground zero is a stronger place, and I will be fine.
They remind me of truth, and of the truth I deserve—that the Savor Jesus Christ is real, and I can come unto him and trust Him. That there are things I can simply let go of and I can trust in Him to take them for me.
It’s ok, 2019, I got this.

Jan 4, 2019:
I told the boys to go do their morning routine and Pace came down saying Max just kept trying to climb onto his bunk bed while he was trying to make it and say his prayer. “But that’s why I got a security system going.” I asked him what his security system was, and he said his hamper, bag with stuffed animals, and a big pillow, among other things. Pace also loves having his picture taken to document things like this for our family book.

David's XC skiing on the Nebo Loop

Jan 5, 2019:

Lunch discussion today: Max wants to figure out how to create hyperspace to travel past Pluto. “It won’t be easy.” He sums up.

Jan 10, 2019:

Took Bishka up to the grotto today for a nice hike. The snow was super packed down and it was sooooo warm! The waterfall was a running waterfall again!

Jan 12, 2019:

Slate canyon hike included some postholing today, until we got too tired to post hole anymore. Winter running and hiking is my favorite—everything is so silent and still and calming—very easy to reset and recharge for the next week.

Jan 12, 2019:

I’m not sure how I got to be so lucky to be around such positive, focused, and driven ladies, but I’m sure glad they invited me into their tribe. Such a fun night making and eating pasta, talking about trail runs, and life in general. ❤️⭐️🏃🏼‍♀️

Jan 12, 2019:

David said we both needed me to get back to running consistently again. Trail Therapy Day 1 had a good message. So grateful to have a supportive and encouraging partner (well, either that or he’s afraid of living with me if I don’t get a run in 😉❤️)

Jan 12, 2019:

I love that Max says Foxy, our new kitty, is “so warm like hot chocolate” when he pets her. Turns out she also likes to drink hot chocolate. She’s a little scavenger!—she’ll pick anything off the table—chicken nuggets, waffles, short ribs...

Jan 13, 2019:

Pace is teaching me how to play Word Battleship. We got a little sidelined when I asked Pace if he had guessed G8 yet, and Pace said “but the board only goes up to J.” “I know, G comes after F and before H. You’ve guessed F8, H8, and I8, but not G8...”. There was a long pause, and then Pace looked up at me with that sheepish look like something just dawned on him. Then he got embarrassed. I let him draw in a G column and gave him the word BOAT to sink. It was also slightly confusing before I started using colors...

Jan 13, 2019:

I love that the boys are asking me questions I have no idea the answer to without consulting Google...

Jan 13, 2019:

Pace is my tender-hearted boy. He got a bunch of little things at a school fair, and left a note for me: “Dear mom, I like how you are so nice, so take my treats. Sincerely, Pace”
Pace has also started writing me little note, so I got both boys a Mom & Me journals for Christmas—they’ll be a fun Sunday activity to do together.
“Dear Mom, I’d like to know everything you are thinking right now, and in the future. So write back, soon, (don’t write in cursive.). Sincerely, Pace”

Jan 20, 2019:
A very spring-like run on the river trail!

Jan 20, 2019:

We stayed up and pulled out the telescope to check out the blood wolf moon lunar eclipse.

Jan 21, 2019:

West Mountain Blizzardventure!

(Here's where we turned around, haha)

Jan 29, 2019:

David got the day off so we hiked the hot pots together!  We even saw a bald eagle flying through the canyon!
