sorry, taylor, he's not available

pace wakes up from naps with the best hair-dos.  david initially kind of resented the fact our little boy has "boy band hair".  but i've got to say, pace has gotten the most compliments about his 'do!  everyone says the cut is adorable, the color is fantastic (!), and they can't believe how cool his hair is.  i guess the only downfall is boy band hair attracts certain singer-girls with gee-tars.

some very adorable pace-isms:

  • says "oh no!" with great emphasis if something falls or goes wrong
  • loves his "soobie" (smoothie)
  • "little loud".  pace is hung up on the idea that "soft" means soft and cuddly, and doesn't really get that soft is the opposite of loud.  he instead calls it "little loud".
  • if i use a very stern or frustrated voice with him, he immediately stops and says, "hi mama" (he sometimes says it with a demanding tone of voice)--as if he's reminding me to be nice
  • goop ex-uhdeder, pye-ul here! (scoop with the excavator and put the pile here!)
  • sit, daddy.  do day?  (at the end of bedtime routine, pace will often ask david to sit down on the floor next to his bed and ask him what he did that day.  they'll have a whole conversation about what they both did that day.  pace usually says "car wash" or "ex-uhdeder", although we never go to a car wash and the only excavating we've done is inside with beans or dice.  a few nights ago he did say "make drums", which was actually what we did that day!)
  • i caught him playing sacrament the other day--he was pretending to say a prayer over some toys
  • he very heartily joins in singing hymns, whether or not he knows the words, and often the notes are somewhat on pitch!
  • is more than happy to share--he'll run into the room, ask for a treat, and if i consent, he'll promptly run over to me, break it in half,, saying, "'ere go, mama"(here you go, mama) and run away with his half.
  • LOVES to cuddle, and asks to cuddle all. the. time.  i think part of that is he figured out we let him cuddle before nap time and bed time, and give him his binkies, so he thinks cuddle time anytime equals binkie time.
  • What is that?  most common phrase we hear from pace these days.  if he knows what "it" is, he'll still ask the question, and then answer it himself.
  • if he wants to look at something or hold something, he says, "hold it, spoon?"  if he knows the name of the object he wants to hold, he'll say it, if he doesn't, he'll say, "hold it, that?"
  • "mama, lay down pile right there too, pace too?!"  a request pace made while i was typing away. he put all the pillows in a pile on the floor next to the computer and apparently would like some cuddle time.  who can say no to that?!
  • "owe do it!"  translates to "i'll do it".  pace has entered the i-want-to-do-it-on-my-own phase and is known to melt down if we pick him up to put him in his booster chair for meals, or car seat, or put the top on his cup, or put lotion on his knees, because he wanted to do it.  i threaten him lately with me doing something for him if he isn't obeying quickly enough:  (menacing tone) "pace, you do it, or i'm going to do it for you..."  (pace quickly running and doing what he needed to do) "no, owe do it!  owe do it!"
  • pace has recently started empathizing, which is adorable.  the other day we were all going to the mall, and as i was getting into the car i hit my hip on the door.  i exclaimed, "ouch!  i hit my hip on the door!"   pace gave me a concerned look and then said, "pace, head, door, too."  "aww, pace, did you hit your head on the door?"   "yes."
