Rock Experiments and The Party

We got a rock and minerals book at the library a few weeks ago and it had some experiments in it!  Pace was so excited to do them, we did two experiments in one day!  First, we made our very own sedimentary rock.  Pace ran outside and collected pebbles and sand, and we added glue and stirred it up.  The glue was really, really thick (I may have poured too much?), so it took a couple weeks to dry.

The other experiment was making your own crystals.  We put salt and water in a cup, and let the water evaporate.  We put the cup in the window so the sun would shine right on it, and it still took a couple weeks to evaporate!  Pace loved chipping out the salt crystals and putting them in bowls for each person in our family.

The boys have also been into making space ships with legos.  Not sure how they latched on to Star Wars, as they'd never seen it, but any time Pace saw anything with Star Wars, he wanted it!  The boys have "hyperdrive" races with their lego space ships and make the sound effects all day long.  And yes, hearing your 3 and 5 year olds say "hyperdrive" is as adorable as it sounds.  We were running errands one day and Max had to bring his space ship with us.  I sat down to start the car and Max said, "Mommy, this is where the party starts," pointing to the grey tower on top of his space ship.  And then proceeded to make space ship rocket noises.  Oh, these boys!--They make me laugh so much!
