the second funnest thing to do in the dark

the next thing we did on vacation was cheer on daddy in the utah valley marathon.

so...we thought david would do great this year, considering he ran the past two years and is familiar with the course, he's been running/training for the trail marathon a couple weeks ago, and on.  we were thinking he'd finish 3:45, about 7 minters faster than last year.  so i packed the kids up and made it down to the finish line around 930, which put us there 15 minutes prior to david crossing.  and then we waited.  and waited.  and waited.  and waited.

an hour later, i decided david had either already finished and was waiting for us crashed out on the grass somewhere, or he was injured and stuck somewhere along the line.  it was also super windy the night before, which blew in a cold front, and it was still pretty windy that morning.  i thought things would warm up with the sun, but it kind of stayed chilly (for june).  so between waiting for an hour and waiting in the chilly wind, the boys were pretty done.  after an hour of holding of the camera, i packed up and turned the boys around in the stroller.  i happened to look up to see if it was ok to cross the road in front of runners, and i happened to see david's head.  no.  way.  yup--that's how it went.  so i grabbed the camera and did what i could to document david crossing the finish line!

we think the cold we all shared the week before--achiness, cough, burning chest, runny noses--finally hit david and did him in...

and then there was the kids race.  pace was pretty excited about it the night before, but didn't want anything to do with it the morning of.  right off the bat he said, "no, mommy, i can't run."  i told him if he ran the first half, i would carry him the second half.  he did not like that plan.  so we walked around the block with pace on my shoulders the whole way, shouting orders, "hurry mama, beat the kids!"  "run, mama!"  "beat them!"  when we made it to the finish line, i said, "pace, there's daddy!  say yay!"  he replied, "no, mommy, i can't,  i didn't run."  "fine, then say yay for mama since i carried you the whole way!"
