Summer Goings-On

Another art lesson day, talking about how Art is How We See Our World.  We did landscapes with water color resists, using folk art patterns.  Pace chose to do a tornado-scape.  Max told me he was really tired, so I told him to go lay down with his blanket--and he did!  He just crawled into bed, snuggled up, and had a 3-4 hour nap!

We keep our freezer stocked with otter-pops since it hit the 100s and has stayed there, week in and week out!

We finally built and launched the rocket from Papa Jay!  David misread the instructions and put in 3 Tablespoons of baking soda (it called for 3 Teaspoons), so the first launch was a very speedy sideways launch.  The subsequent ones went higher...haha.

Pace's Wall-E summary sketch.  I love the little thought bubbles, the heart, and how they are holding hands!  I love Pace's family portrait...more thought bubbles and hearts, "Because we love each other."

The boys did a week-long summer camp in June.  They'd come home each day with little things they did and made.  One day was knights and castles, and they made marshmallow catapults and shields.

Max being his cute self making a silly face.  Working on workbooks one afternoon, and Max demonstrated the silly face he was going to draw in his workbook.  When Pace graduated Upstart, I also got him and Max Star Wars workbooks for the summer, and huge star/universe posters to hang on their ceilings.  They were so excited about the Star Wars workbooks Pace did an entire one in one day!  He just kept going, saying he was going to "Finish all the pages!"

Experiment day, making milk curd shapes (I think?), and potato planters.  Neither one worked...

Pace wanted me to take a picture of this drawing, something tornado related.

Another experiment, something with water tension, and soap pushing the toothpicks apart.

We finished reading a book on microscopes and the microscopic world, and Pace was enthralled.  He desperately wants a microscope now, and I told him for such a big, important present, he'd have to wait for his birthday.  He was very disappointed.  I told him to make a list of all the things he'd like to look at under the microscope to look forward to his birthday.

We made it out to Chick-fil-a Day, dress up like a cow and get free food!  We went at the perfect time, no line, the restaurant was practically empty.  We'll have to do this again next year!
