At Bishka's

Bishka made a really fun treasure hunt for the boys once we were back at her place!  The loved following the clues and little treasures--Star Wars things, Legos things, watches, etc., all along the way!

David and I continued running together every morning!  What a fun opportunity, and it was so, so nice of Bishka to let us take off while she stayed with the boys.  We decided to hit up the Lake Fairfax Trail System since it was right out the front door.  It took us an HOUR to find the lake, and 12 MINUTES to make it back to the neighborhood, haha!

We'd start on one trail, and get to a fork and not know which way to turn, or we'd think we were on one trail, and get to a new opening and the trailheads were two different trail numbers we weren't even sure when/where we started running on them!

All the green!  It was an amazing sight--I haven't been in the east coast environment for such a long time, I was as amazed as David and the boys at all the green!  And the humidity...the part of the east coast I don't miss at all...It wasn't even July/August, and it felt pretty darn humid to me!

We even encountered some jumping...

...And accidentally ran through the parking lot of some controlled property...oops...

Finally, the lake!  Ooo, that humidity!  It was pretty cool while we were visiting, but boy, we were dripping after that run!

Then we went to DC for the afternoon.  I loved going to the Smithsonian Museums for school field trips growing up, and heading back with my kids was pretty cool.

Max fell asleep in the car ride down, and was a little crabby/clingy when he woke up.

"Hey, Pace, look amazed!"

Mind blown.

Checking out the fountain before lunch at the Museum Cafe.  The boys thought the duck ramp was pretty funny.

And then we sat down to wait for lunch, and when we slowed down, Pace realized he was "So starving [he] was going to die!"  Boy was it hard waiting for the buzzer to buzz, letting us know our food was ready to pick up.

That night David and I spent the night in Leesburg, continuing the theme of hitting all our spots from when we first met/were married.  We ate a fantastic dinner at the Lightfoot Restaurant--not a disappointer!!!, and stayed at the Leesburg Colonial Inn (Um, I don't think I'll be spending another wedding night/anniversary night there...I'm more of a modern accommodation kinda girl)

The next morning we hit the W&O Rail Trail, then cut over to Morven Park and ran on old Civil War grounds.  It was a very adventurous, wet run...lots of rain, wet meadows, and going off trail to a busy road...

The boys wanted to check out the Lake Fairfax Trail, too!  They had lots of fun with Bishka while we were having our anniversary celebration.

They went for a walk and wrote a list in a notebook of what they found: "Fuzzy", a little caterpillar, deer, an echo tunnel, tons of buttercups, beehives, garden, and money trees.  Not sure what the money trees are; they were trees with small silver discs attached to some of them.  Pace was sure that meant they'd be saved from the shredder, but we don't really know.

Then we drove to BWI so we could turn in our rental Friday night, since we were leaving for the airport the next morning at 430am from the hotel.  The boys were up until 12, jumping again...Aaaaaaaand up four hours later so we could gather everything and catch the shuttle to the airport.

I don't know why I didn't take a photo of the line at BWI, it was crazy!  The line wrapped around all the check in desks, through back hallways, and down the totally opposite corner of the airport.  Just to get to the Security line.  There were signs along the way, "From this point, it's only a 40 minute wait!"  Pace laid on his blanket on the floor, whining all the way, we'd scoot him along every so often.  After the Check in line, then the Security line, the waiting for the airplane, Pace was done.  "NO MORE LINES!!!"  We had a quick flight to NYC, then a connecting flight to SLC.

Playing bridge and toll booth, waiting for our flight to SLC.  I love how the boys' play incorporated "east Coast" things:  toll booth, boardwalk with lincoln logs, lining up cars that parked long the road in a city, etc.  All new things they saw and added to their play!

On the flight from NYC to SLC, the boys sat next to David and I got to sit by myself!  David entertained them with movies and headphones and I got some naps and reading done.
