we took off the next morning to check out old faithful. i don't know how or why, but pace pronounces it "oooooooooooooold faithful!" we made a few stops along the way to take some breathers and get the wiggles out...(who knew driving to old faithful and back would take the same amount of time it took to drive from utah to cooke city?!...)
after seeing the geyser we sat down for a picnic lunch. the boys decided to have races down the sidewalk, and then draw a map! see that line in the rocks? not a new geyser forming...it's pace's map of old faithful, our cabin, montana, then utah.
on the way back we stopped at mammoth hot springs for a snack and to check out the wandering elk
then we stopped at the artist's paint pots (bubbling hot mud...) for a quick hike and some views
pace decided he was thirsty and needed a sip of water off the pine needles. nice survival technique!
