maxwell had his 2 week check up today. this kid is a little tank! i don't know that "butterball" is the right nickname for him, because he really doesn't have rolls on rolls (i've seen some pretty chubby babies, and max isn't one of them), but he is a very solidly built little fellow! he weighed in at 8lbs6oz at birth, and two weeks later he's already 5 ounces away from being 10 pounds! it took poor pace two months to hit 11 pounds!
max pretty much eats every 2-3 hours around the clock--we have to maintain the figure somehow! he is still very mellow and content (unless i take too long to get ready to nurse him), and has given us some very decent smiles and giggles already. he's a little night owl, with his most alert times being in the evening. i'm trying to change that over to daytime alertness so we can all sleep at night, but he isn't catching on yet. max has the cutest cowlick--i'm looking forward to seeing how his hair grows. then behind the cowlick is a shock of blond hair--at first i thought it was a bald spot, but then david pointed out the bleach-blond baby hairs--that'll be fun to watch grow, too! i haven't found a birthmark anywhere, so maybe this little blond spot is it!
pace finds max fascinating, and is starting to be more hands on with him. when we first brought max home, pace was very hesitant to sit next to him or touch him, and if david or i were holding max and pulled pace up to sit with us, as well, pace did not like the baby getting into his personal space. overall he is very gentle with max, and thinks all the stuffed animals that accompany the baby are pretty cool.
