ice castles

last christmas, christian and robin sent us a really cool and thoughtful gift--an amazon local deal to the ice castles in midway.  only by the time we got around to doing it, we discovered they had closed the weekend prior to our going due to mild weather.  we emailed the company and they said they would redeem our tickets the next year.

well, this year we've had an even milder winter--sunny and in the 50s the majority of the time.  we've had a total of 7-10 days of weather under 20 degrees, and we did have a white christmas, but that's about it.  so we've been watching the ice castles website like a hawk, wondering if they would even open this year.  they did--for ONE weekend!  we made it over to the castles on saturday, and it was pretty fun to walk around the ice maze!  both pace and max fell asleep on the drive out there (they were all bundled up and warm in their snow pants and coats), and were only slightly disoriented when wearied at the ice castle light show.  since it was the only weekend it was open, there was probably a mile-long line of cars waiting to get in, but the wait went pretty smoothly and we walked around.  max wanted to be carried the whole time, but pace really loved walking around all the ice and snow and walking the corridors of ice.

it was a great family night!
