on the run

six months ago david said he wanted to run the utah valley marathon.  he had a pretty good work out regimen...until he hurt his knee.  five months later and a dr's appointment he discovered it was a tight it band, got a rolling foam bar, and has started running again.  with one month to go before the marathon, he looked at me and asked me if it would be ok if he still participated.  i laughed at him, thinking he was joking--seriously?!  you want to start training for a marathon with 4 weeks to go?!  ok, you find me a 4-week training schedule, and if you can stick with it, fine, run.

david couldn't find a 4-week marathon training schedule (surprise, surprise), but he did go for a trial run on saturday out by deer creek reservoir.  the run ended up being 16 miles of rolling hill trails accompanied by lots of wind.  right after starting, he caught up with another runner who ended up being an "ultramarathoner" training for a 50-mile race.  they ran the whole way together, and david reported he was actually a stronger runner than the ultra guy.  he also reported the ultra guy gave him the thumbs up to do the marathon in a month, as david was a stronger runner than he was.  thanks, ultra guy.  will you meet my husband at the finish line to take pictures, as i am going to be home with a week-old newborn?
