david really talked up hiking squaw peak with pace for memorial day, so monday morning pace climbed into our bed at a bright and early 6am and said, "go mountain now?" and during breakfast, david said, "so, pace, is there something special you want to do today?" and pace responded, "climb mountain 'day, now, daddy!"
they packed snacks, water, the hiking backpack, and they were off! it was a bright, sunny day, so neither david nor i thought of packing a jacket for pace. halfway up the mountain david realized pace wasn't talking to him anymore. he looked back and saw that pace had zoned out--he was freezing cold. he pulled pace out of the backpack and hugged him and rubbed him until pace was responsive again and said, "what doing, daddy?" then david made pace carry a large branch and hike uphill for a while to warm up. pace was more than happy to hike; david said they passed lots of people coming down, and they were all surprised to see such a happy little guy carrying a branch uphill!
