max's big day was so fun yesterday! we're in the middle of packing and moving preparations, and i'd already packed our traditional birthday glasses, and didn't really do any birthday prep--i figured we'd celebrate after we moved. so instead we spent the entire day asking max what he'd like to do for his special day.
we drove daddy to work and then we went to macy's to ride around in the "team hot wheels car cart", as max affectionately calls these grocery carts. he's really into cars, team hot wheels, racing, and driving.
but not so much into complying with my requests for a photo...
"no, mommy, i not like happy birthday!"
a few key max phrases that we love:
"i not love _____; i jus love ______" example: "i not love bafs; i just love daddy!"
"i jus do it nine-helf"
"harry me" (carry me)
"too many much ____" ("too many much 'ookies" = lots and lots of cookies)
"huh? ______", saying "huh" with a loud, high-pitched surprised tone of voice
luckily we found some fun things while drag racing up and down the grocery aisles: a birthday cupcake, a birthday sprinkle doughnut, a hot wheels car, and a yellow car to add to his yellow car collection (yellow seems to be max's favorite color in cars...he always asks "where nine yeyyow car doh?" and i have to ask him which car he's asking about, since he has about 9 or 10 favorite cars, that are all yellow)
after doing our chores we decided to head out to get max's favorite lunch: cheeseburger, and we thought things are always more fun with friends, so we brought tj and emery with us!
we ran around the duck park and did a little rock climbing. max loved the yellow bird that kept flying over to him to tell him happy birthday!
and the best birthday celebration: car wash!!
we came inside to cool off and do our workbooks. pace has just four letters left until he's done with his workbook he's been working on this year! max anxiously watches pace do his workbook and maze book, and really wants to start his own. i found a pre-k workbook finally at costco, and thought we'd just start it in the new house after we move and unpack and get settled in our new routine, but when max saw me pull out pace's workbook, i asked him if he wanted to do a workbook, too, and he just lit up! we thumbed through the pages to see what he'd start working on, and he got so excited! he got most excited when he saw the numbers.
first up: tracing circles. after tracing the big, middle, and small circles, the directions said for more fun you could draw a silly face. max got right to it: "big eyes, ih-wee mouth like dis, blah blah blah, nose, and wazy hair".
when we got to the number section, we did "zero"--after tracing around the zeroes, max decided they needed to be silly faces, too, and gave them all big eyes, crazy hair, etc.
we opened a present from uncle jon erik and built some things
and when we picked daddy up from work we went to the new house for a "pre-walk-through" with our realtor--we are really pushing to close this thursday or friday so we can move on saturday. so this walk-through gave us the opportunity to put blue tape on all the things that need to be fixed before our final walk-through and closing. the boys got really silly--pace pulled his shirt down and walked around kind of wiggling, max thought is was the funniest thing on earth and wanted to try it, too.
checking out the excavator
and then home! we found some "pop-its" at macy's--i think this is going to be our new tradition!--the boys loved the "birthday poppers"!
