health & safety day at ups

on saturday ups had their annual health and safety fair at the plant.  david was in charge of organizing the 5k run as he is the "wellness champion".  only 4 people showed up to run; his goal was to have 5...and no drivers other than himself.  this year was the first year doing it, though, so maybe next year will have a better turn out.

pace loved sitting in a truck that looked just like dada's--he pointed at all the trucks in the center saying, "dada!  dada!"  over and over.  i love how little pace looks sitting in all these trucks!  they also had a fire truck and ambulance there, with a few emt's, and a police car with a dog.  pace *loved* sitting in the fire truck, and was super excited about petting the dog.  he wasn't so sure about the attack suit they had him try on, though!  they didn't have the dog attack anyone in the suit, they just had it there for kids to try on.  in fact, they put the dog in the car before letting anyone try on the coat, just so the dog wouldn't get mixed signals.  all in all, a very exciting afternoon!

happy mother's day--love, einstein

when getting ready for church, the last step is spraying pace's hair and combing it neatly.  he loves to watch this in the mirror--we get his hair all crazy and einstein-like (he laughs at himself every time), and then he helps comb it, and mama does the finishing touches.  here's my handsome little guy--all ready to celebrate mother's day at church!

gardening 101

pace has a favorite spot in our front yard: the corner of the house next to the hose.  he loves to walk through the flowers, pat the tops of the sewage pipes as though they are drums, and then have a seat on a "chair" just his size.  after he sits down, he looks over at the other pipes sticking out of the ground, pats it and says, "mamo?  mamo?"--as though he is offering me a throne covered in jewels and velvet to sit on and join him in his little fort.  i simply respond, "mama's too big to sit there."  good thing david is still a willing playmate.

we also recently invested in a number of summer outdoor activities for pace, to keep him occupied with grandparents when baby comes.  a little backyard inflatable pool, sidewalk chalk, finger paints, and of course, a new ball.  i find it hard to ignore the petitions of this little boy to add yet another ball to his collection--he isn't demanding, doesn't throw a fit, and doesn't cry (too often) when we tell him no (and if he does cry, it never lasts long).  when he saw the ball display at the store, his eyes got very large (if you can imagine that!), he immediately started pointing and very excitedly exclaimed, "oooooooooooooooooooh!" into the cart it went!

van gogh rip off: check

project #2 completed this morning!  i can officially check "paint a van gogh replica" off my bucket list. i divided the canvas into quarters (at david's brilliant recommendation), and took one quarter at a time.  here are the progression photos of the canvas--i started a little late taking photos.

believe it or not, but it still isn't done yet:

now it's completed!  on to project #3 before baby #2 makes his/her debut!

here's the original i painted from:

on the run

six months ago david said he wanted to run the utah valley marathon.  he had a pretty good work out regimen...until he hurt his knee.  five months later and a dr's appointment he discovered it was a tight it band, got a rolling foam bar, and has started running again.  with one month to go before the marathon, he looked at me and asked me if it would be ok if he still participated.  i laughed at him, thinking he was joking--seriously?!  you want to start training for a marathon with 4 weeks to go?!  ok, you find me a 4-week training schedule, and if you can stick with it, fine, run.

david couldn't find a 4-week marathon training schedule (surprise, surprise), but he did go for a trial run on saturday out by deer creek reservoir.  the run ended up being 16 miles of rolling hill trails accompanied by lots of wind.  right after starting, he caught up with another runner who ended up being an "ultramarathoner" training for a 50-mile race.  they ran the whole way together, and david reported he was actually a stronger runner than the ultra guy.  he also reported the ultra guy gave him the thumbs up to do the marathon in a month, as david was a stronger runner than he was.  thanks, ultra guy.  will you meet my husband at the finish line to take pictures, as i am going to be home with a week-old newborn?

i looked out the window and what did i see...

so do my little boy's feet need a good scrubbing, or my floors?...
